Abstract

Electronic tendering has been assumed to be a more effective method compare with a traditional tendering method. However, most of the local projects are still adopting the traditional tendering method. The aim of this study is to investigate current e-tendering systems application in Malaysian construction industry. The study will take into account the awareness and acceptance level of e-tendering in current Malaysia construction industry, the benefits by adopting e-tendering system and the challenges of implementing the e-tendering system. The research applied quantitative data, which questionnaire survey had been distributed via online to identify the level of understanding about the e-tendering system in Malaysian construction practitioners and also whether they involved in the application of e-tendering in Malaysia. After collecting the data, SPSS will be used to analyse the data by mean of frequency distribution, central tendency analysis and inferential analysis. The result shows that the current awareness of e-tendering is in slightly high level in current Malaysia construction industry. The majority of the construction parties are majority aware regarding the e-tendering system but less than half of them having experience with e-tendering. The benefits and challenges of the e-tendering system were evaluated. ‘Paperless’ process which lead to cost saving and remote accessibility are the biggest factors which contributes to the construction parties’ willingness to participate in e-tendering. In the other hand, unfriendly user system which required time and security concern are the most important factor contributes to construction parties' unwillingness in the participation of e-tendering.
