Abstract

One of the main reasons for this gender inequity is that we’re tied to old habits. Traditionally, there have always been more male job applicants for a role like this, so naturally these male candidates get hired and eventually promoted to managerial roles. Even if now things have changed and more women choose to study engineering and web development, it’s still tough for them to enter this male-dominant space. Although the disparities between men and women are reducing in many fields, however, in the construction workplace, gender inequality still exist as a serious problem. There are a lot of the current literature describes the difficulties experienced by women who work in this sector including cultural and structural barriers, such as harassment and discrimination, limited networking opportunities and long and inflexible working hours which often result in poor career prospects and high levels of stress for women. The aim of this research study is to identify the barriers faced by the women in the construction workplace and study the impact of gender inequality in the construction workplace. Other than that, this research paper also find solution to solve the gender inequality problems in the construction workplace. The research paper approach applied in this study is qualitative research thereby interview method was used to collect the information from the targeted respondents. Both quantity surveyors either male or female agreed that gender stereotype and sexual harassment are the most significant problems faced by the women in the construction workplace. In a nutshell, the data analysis shows that the employer takes the biggest responsibilities in solving the gender inequalities issue in the construction workplace. These findings are crucial implications in the field of construction workplace.
