Abstract

The invention of new technologies has stimulate the evolution of a simple builing to a more intelligence and multifunctional smart building. In recent years, Internet of Things (IoT) has been integrated into smart buidlings especially for residential builings. This study is conducted to examine the preferences of IoT based smart home developments for Malaysian home buyers. This study also investigates wheather the different gender groups and range of salary of working adults affect the desired IoT based smart home developments. The previous studies related to IoT and smart home is cited in the Literature Review chapter. The respondents for this research is Malaysian working adults and the questionnaire is distibuted through Google Form. In the questionnaire, the respondents is required to select their preferences on different IoT applications for smart homes. Besides, the respondents is required to provide their degree of agreement on the benefits and barriers of IoT based smart homes based on their opinions. The collected data is analysed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS for descriptive analysis and inferential analysis respectively and the research result is discussed in Chapter 4. For inferential analysis, independent sample t-test and ANOVA is applied. From the research results, there is no significant difference between different gender groups and range of salary to the desired of IoT based smart homes. This study is to provide guidance to housing developers on the most accepted IoT features that are welcomed by potential home purchasers and hence provide the more comfortable and competible residential units to the property market.
