Abstract

Construction industry is the major contributor in Malaysian among all sectors. However, it is a huge contributor but it still rooted with bad image from the public due to poor quality and time management, insufficient of financial control, lack of labour force and other. In long run, we shall take some action to improve the construction performance and change the perception from the public from negative to positive view. This research will discuss issues that cause poor performance in construction industry that provide poor image from the public to Malaysian construction industry and solution in enhancing Malaysian construction industry’s performance to change impression from the public to Malaysian construction industry. The data and information will conduct by well-planned research design method to verify obtained data. Firstly, pilot test will use for the drafted questionnaire survey. Secondly, the final draft of questionnaire survey will distribute to the targeted population and related parties (consultant, developer and contractor firm). Fifty set of questionnaire are collected and analysed. The result will be analysed by the Relative Important Index (RII) and frequency distribution method. Based on the overall ranking, finding of this research show that the most significant performance factor is quality (RII 0.860) that also mean that the issue of quality will brought impact to major performance of construction industry. Hence, the respondents perceived that the most useful solution to overcome this issue will be implementation of construction quality assessment system (RII=0.872). The result of research show that there is a need to take some necessary action in order to gain confident form the public by improving performance construction industry.
