Abstract

This research aims to highlight the suitable of practices and instructions in minimizing construction waste by Malaysian Contractors. From the research, the objectives of this research study are the factors causing inefficient of contractors in construction waste, the challenges and barriers in adopting concept of sustainable in waste minimization and investigate the waste minimization practice among Malaysian Contractors. Rapid growth of construction activities in Malaysia has caused a generation of waste in tonnes. The pollution of air, water and land and contribute to resource consumption are caused by the improper waste management system. The environmental impact of construction wastes is permanent and accumulated, and the components are increasing diversified, so, the secondary contaminations are also increasing severe. It is very important to improve waste minimization practices in order to improve the cleanliness, and environmental health. However, Malaysian Contractors is still considered weak in waste minimization practices during the early stage of the construction project. It is examined to the reaction and attitude of those contractors in this issue and causes the problems of construction waste and environmental health to remain unresolved. Objectives were designed to aid the accomplishment of aim of this study. Therefore, the literature study of waste minimization in the past are insufficient so that this research study will gain small amount of literature and the improvement of waste minimization practices in Malaysia. The adoption of this research method is Quantitative Research as it is more scientific and suitable in this study. Large amount of data will be collected and analysed statistically by using IBM SPSS STATISTICS 23 and Microsoft Excel 2013. SPSS and Excel is capable of handling large amounts of data and can perform all of the analyses used in this research study. The questionnaires consist of a few sections to be answered by the respondents. The result will be reviewed and be presented in the last chapter of this book followed by the recommendations to take actions and for future study. Lastly, this result will adopted the waste minimization practices by Malaysian Contractors in the future. This allowed the researcher to explore more on the level of commitment and awareness on sustainable waste management and recommend a strategy to overcome it.
