Abstract
In construction industry nowadays, bad quality and defective buildings is the most common phenomena in the whole. Bad quality of buildings will result low satisfaction of customer. Based on the issue, poor workmanship has been determined as a lead reason affect the quality of building. Poor workmanship has been cause by poor project management, lack supervision, lack of skilled labour, language barrier and lack of communication. In order to improve the quality of workmanship, Quality Assessment in Construction (QLASSIC) was introduced by CIDB. The implementation of QLASSIC has standardised quality of workmanship for various aspects of the construction elements in building. Yet, implementations of QLASSIC obtained low response due to this assessment will increase the project cost and make the construction works become complicated. However, to improve adaption of QLASSIC, it is mandatory to assess QLASSIC if the government project exceeding RM 50mil. To further understand the influence of QLASSIC certifications to the quality of houses, satisfaction of the home owners, defects found in houses certified with QLASSIC and perception of home buyer toward workmanship, a quantitative survey will be conducted. 70 sets of survey questionnaire forms will be distributed to respondents staying in Ascenda Residences. Ascenda Residence has been awarded with QLASSC certificate and it obtained score 76%. After the data have been collected, the method used to analyse the data including descriptive statistics method, multiple response method, reliability test and independent T – test by using SPSS. From the overall result obtained, it can figure out most of the home buyer were agreed that workmanship plays an important roles on quality of house. Furthermore, overall respondents were satisfied with the quality of houses certified with QLASSIC. It is very recommended that QLASSIC shall commonly develop in housing development in Malaysia.
