Abstract

E-tendering is an information technology tools that have been highlighted by construction industry professional to assist in changing traditional tendering process to an advance and efficient process. It provides efficiency savings in terms of cost and time, improved security information, improved the speed of communication, environmental friendly and convenience due to “paperless” process, better transparency in e-tendering process, and improved accuracy as well as elimination of arithmetical errors to produce higher quality of works. High rise residential is a complex construction, hence consumption in term of time, cost and paper for preparing tender documents is long and complicated. E-tendering is suggested to be used for high rise residential project in Kula Lumpur. However, the implementation of e-tendering in Malaysian in high rise residential construction industry has been very slow. This research has studied the implementation e-tendering system in Malaysian construction sector and aim to increase the awareness level and knowledge of Malaysia construction parties regarding on e-tendering. Where the research objectives of this study are to identify the challenges of implementing E-tendering and provide suggestions and recommendations to make construction parties become more interested to e-tendering system. To achieve the objectives of the research, literature review was done, and a portal questionnaire survey was chosen for construction parties in Malaysia. The questionnaire survey involved 50 respondents from ages of 22 to 50 and who is working under construction industry in Kuala Lumpur. The data will be analysed and illustrated in table form as well as bar chart. Besides that, it was also revealed that the most significant challenges faced by the industry. Moreover, a list of recommendations and suggestions were also provided under construction industry. In addition, this research able to contribute the construction industry with better understanding on e-tendering and turn Malaysia to become a technologically advanced country.
