Abstract

In year 2017, Malaysia ranked 12 internationally for tourism. The government aims to be top 10 tourist destinations by year 2019. Despite having many upcoming hotels to accommodate the local and foreign tourists, there are still estimated shortage of room supply. However, aside from having shortage of room supply, hotel industry generates a lot of wastes and is causing harm to the environment. The dispose of waste on landfill results in land scarcity which may hinder the government from developing more buildings. Hence, the concept of capsule hotel is then introduced to Malaysia to solve land scarcity problem and also to be able to accommodate more tourists in Malaysia. Hence, this research aims to study on the concept of capsule hotel as well as identifying the public perception on the concept of capsule hotel and investigating the potential factors affecting the growth of capsule hotel in Malaysia. Both primary data and secondary data collection will be conducted to obtain information needed to achieve the research’s objectives. After collecting the data, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel will be used to analyse the data collected and determining the results of this research. Finally, the implications, limitations and recommendations of this study will be made to provide more insights for the future researchers who would like to dive deeper into this research topic.
