Abstract

This study identified the differences of ISO and Non-ISO Construction Company toward inspection on formwork and Standard Operating Procedure of installing formwork in Malaysia. There were formwork failure in Malaysia construction industry scenario, which caused loss of human lives, public damages, and building collapsed while still under project period. For this purpose, a questionnaire was designed and distributed to the professional people, which are Architects, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, and contractors who were experienced in construction field in Klang Valley area. The purpose of this questionnaire was to collect respondents’ personal thoughts, opinion and experience in construction field. The collected data would be used to determine the ranking of inspection on formwork and standard operating procedure in ISO and Non- ISO Construction Company. In order to collect data, respondents were requested to answer the questionnaire through online. The collected data would be analysed by using Excel Software to determine the average mean score and also the ranking. By making an easy and clear comparison, the questionnaire split into 25 numbers for company with ISO certification and 25 numbers for company without ISO certification as well. The aim in this research was to find the differences in inspection on formwork and Standard Operating Procedure between company with ISO and without ISO. Furthermore, an extended investigation on the recommend the improvement for formwork system in Malaysia construction industry. In summary of the result, it shown that the Non-ISO construction company were lack on inspection and not following the standard operating procedure while company with ISO Certification were mostly carry out inspection work and implement standard operation procedure. It could explain that contractors from construction company that without ISO certification may have a higher chance to cause formwork failure in construction project. A construction project that could be done within the project time frame is a good project. Formwork failure in construction project is generally perceived as events that influence the project time, building quality and human life. It is important to know the risks that lack of inspection and improper procedure of constructing formwork would cause accident happened in the construction site. Contractors ought to understand the importance of a good formwork and a proper procedure to produce a formwork in construction work. Contractors also ought to aware for any difficulties that may lead to accident in construction projects. The findings of this research will investigate more on the inspection on formwork and standard operating procedure between ISO and Non-ISO construction company.
