Abstract

Nowadays, the principles of sustainable development are becoming increasingly important and universities are acting as agents in promoting these principles within society. The concept of sustainable university campus consists of the reduction of carbon footprint around the campus and one of the best way to achieve this is by using sustainable mode of transportation. Hence, the aim of this study is to encourage the student of TARUC to use bicycle as their mode of transportation to campus. The first objective of this study is to identify the barriers in cycling habit among student to TARUC campus. The second objective is to identify the motivators that can promote cycling habit among student to TARUC campus. This research will be conducted by way of questionnaire where primary data will be collected through response from respondents who are those undergraduate TARUC student. Secondary data will be collected through journal, book, internet sources and so on. Next, data collected will be analysed by using SPSS. Frequency distribution and descriptive statistical analysis will be used to analyse the data for the above mentioned objectives. The data will be presented in proper way and interpreted. This research outlined some common barriers in preventing student from cycle to campus as well as some of the motivators that can promote cycling habit to campus. This could be serve as a guideline for TARUC administration to examine on the areas that required improvement in order to encourage student to cycle to campus. It is in deeply anticipated that TARUC can moving towards to achieve the concept of sustainable campus by the combined effort of administrative, staffs and also students.
