Abstract

E-tendering is one of the information technology (IT) solutions discussed by professionals in the construction industry to help change the culture of the sector and enhance its processes. Many construction investors in developing countries are currently using a paper-based tendering process that is time-consuming, costly, and labor-intensive. It can be argued that taking into account increased demands to improve efficiency in the construction industry, implementing e-tendering will offer many benefits by allowing electronic information sharing and eliminating conventional tendering errors. The problem of building stakeholders ' readiness to accept this move, however, remains. Nevertheless, the adoption of e-tendering in the construction industry in Malaysia was very slow. This study aims to identify the readiness and awareness level of e-tendering in Malaysia construction industry, investigate the reason that make contractor refuse to adopt e-tendering and provide suggestions and solutions to reduce the challenges of e-tendering.
