Abstract

Malaysia construction industry has expanded rapidly in recent years because of the application of the new construction technologies which are able to reform the construction industry. Drone technology is one of the latest technologies which can be used as an effective tool in monitoring the construction project in Malaysia. In fact, Malaysia has been reluctant and limited to utilise the modern technology in construction that has caused a fail in improving in the productivity in construction. Therefore, this research has been conducted to analysis on the adoption of drone technology in monitoring construction progress in Malaysia. The research will enhance the understanding of the adoption of drone in the construction industry in Malaysia. There are many application of the drone technology in the construction field. Drone can be used as a real-time tool to monitor the construction progress. Beside cost effective and time saving, drone also can enhance the security and safety in construction site. In addition, the collected data by drone is high in accuracy compared to the traditional approach which enabling a high control degree over the project as well. Furthermore, the challenges faced when adopting the drone in construction industry in Malaysia will be identified. The challenges include the safety risks, wildlife hazard, battery capacity limit, weather conditions and the needed of high trained personnel. Moreover, the data breach is easily occurred when implementing drone in monitoring the construction progress.
