Abstract
Moisture defects has been a long-standing problem as it commonly happens in every building in Malaysia. There are 76 per cent of building defects are caused by the moisture throughout Malaysia. This study is to identify the causes toward the moisture defects, to investigate the effects of moisture defects and to propose an appropriate solution to overcome the moisture defects. This research is achieved by using of quantitative research instrument which is questionnaire survey in Likert scale with the sample size of 100, and the respondents are each 50 respondents of background of developer and contractor but only 43 sets of feedback from developer group and 44 sets of feedback from contractor group. The T-test is applied in further analyse the data which collected from the respondents by using SPSS software, it is to testify whether the two groups of respondents hold the same or different viewpoint towards the causes, effects and solutions of moisture defects. It is because the factors to be taken into consideration might be different in these two groups of respondents where the contractor might consider in the aspect of practicability while developer might consider in the aspect of cost. The result of this survey are the respondents with background of contractor and developer hold the same viewpoints toward the causes and effects of moisture defects, meanwhile different viewpoints are happened toward the proposed solution. By determining to the least different between the mean of between the two groups of respondents, the top five proposed method to overcome the moisture defects are flow liquid meter sensor to overcome the moisture defects arise from pipe, extra-over concrete bases as lower part of wall to overcome the moisture defects arise from rising dampness and modern wall in which stucco and lap and vertical siding wall to overcome the moisture defects arise from penetration dampness.
