Abstract

As the introduction of the concept of Industry Revolution 4.0 in the twenty-first century, many sectors have achieved remarkable improvement in term of productivity, quality and reduction in production time by adopting new technologies into the industry. Despite the positive feedbacks from the adopting of new technologies, the construction sector still did not manage to adopt and adapt the innovative technologies when compared with the other global sectors. The study aims to summarise the various type of modern technologies available in the Malaysian construction industry and the benefits of the said technologies so that the players of Malaysian construction players may use it as a reference or guide to adopting modern technologies in construction processes. In order to find out the adoption level of modern technologies among medium and large-size construction companies, a survey has been conducted by distributing the questionnaire to G6 and G7 construction companies in the Klang Valley region. Comparison has also been made to find out the significant difference between G6 and G7 construction companies in term of adoption level and their perception of the benefits of adopting modern technologies. The results have indicated positive feedback of modern technologies adoption in the Malaysian construction industry. Form the results, most of the G6 and G7 construction companies have adopted BIM software in the construction process as well as RFID. Majority of the feedbacks show that they agree with the benefits by adopting modern technologies into construction processes. The most agreed benefits are improved safety on-site and improve communication which are the most vital elements to make sure a project can run smoothly. In short, this study is to contribute to the Malaysian construction industry to increase the exposure of various type of modern technologies and the benefits that come along with it hoping that Malaysian construction industry can transform into more productive industry.
