Abstract

The purpose of this study was to study the effect of plyometric training on softball performance among college softball players. A total of 22 college softball players (age =20± 1.30, height = 165.27±7.48, weight= 58.45± 9.19, years of experience= 2.9± 2.32) participated in the study which were divided into control group (n=12) and experimental group (n=10) whereby the experimental group underwent a 6-week plyometric training. The subjects were tested on the AAHPERD Overhand Throw for Distance and Accuracy (Validity = .64-0.94, Reliability = 0.95), Throwing Speed Test (Validity = 0.882, Accuracy= ±0.1mph), 20 Dash Test (Validity = 0.826, Reliability = 0.958). The data analysis showed that there were no significant differences in the throwing distance, throwing speed and base running time. This showed that plyometric training had no positive effect in improving the softball performance
