Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of 6 weeks aquatic circuit training on health related fitness among male overweight college students. A total of 16 Tunku Abdul Rahman University College male overweight students (age = 21.38 ± 1.50, weight = 87.53 ± 9.047, height = 171.06 ± 6.08) took part in this study and were divided into the experimental group (n=10) and control group (n=10) randomly. Both group went through the pre and post-test. The experimental group had gone through the six weeks aquatic circuit training, meanwhile the control group did not attend any training intervention during the six weeks period. Furthermore, training will given three time with 55 minute session. The subjects were tested on Body Composition Test Inbody-230 (Reliability = 0.94 for men), Sit and Reach Test (Reliability = 0.97), 1 Repetition Maximum Bench Press Test ( Reliability= 0.973), 1 Repetition Squat Test ( Reliability= 0.91), 1- Minutes Push Up Test (Reliability = 0.93), Repetitive Squat Test (Reliability=0.88, Pilot Test= 0.86) and Harvard Step Test (Reliability= 0.818). Data analysis showed that there was significantly improvement in flexibility, upper limb muscular strength, upper limb muscular endurance, lower limb muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance. However, there was no significant difference in the post test mean score in body composition (percentage of body fat), flexibility, upper limb muscular strength, upper limb muscular endurance, lower limb muscular strength, lower limb muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance. This evidenced were no adequate to prove that the six weeks aquatic circuit training can help to improve the health related fitness component of male overweight college student, the research still need to further studies to evaluated the effect of the aquatic based exercise training.
