Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the Effect of 5-Days Pre-Exercise Ginger Supplementation on Running Economy in Trained Athletes. A total of 10 trained athletes (age: 20.33 ± 1.73years; weight: 63.78 ± 4.84kg; height: 170.22 ± 4.37cm; 56.87 ± 2.62ml.kg-1.min-1) from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College were recruited in this study. They undertook 2 experimental trials which included 1 Ginger trial and 1 PLA trial prior to the 16 min running economy test and isokinetic muscle damage protocol. Each test was separated at least 14 days apart. Results showed VO2 responses significant difference in 4minutes at RE2, (p=0.016) and heart rate responses significant difference in 16minutes at RE2, (p=0.048). Although blood lactate concentration was similar between PLA and Ginger trial, but for overall, ginger was lower value compare to PLA.In conclusion, the present study demonstrates the ingestion of 4g ginger5day prior to the testing mayimprove16min running economy test.
