Abstract

This paper attempts to investigate the determinants of oil price in Malaysia. This paper also examines the long run and short run relationship between oil price and oil production, oil consumption, exchange rate and political tension from 1990 to 2019. Towards these purposes, this paper employed unit root test, cointegration test and diagnostic tests. It shows that there is long run and short run relationship between oil price and the oil production, oil consumption, exchange rate and political stability. The oil consumption has positive impact towards the oil price whereas oil production, exchange rate and political tension have negative impact towards oil price.
