Abstract

Tongkat Ali with scientific name Eurycoma longifolia Jack is a Malay traditional herb. It is believed that the barks and roots of the plant can increase the male fertility and sexual abilities. Edible bird nest is known as a precious for beauty enhancement and also a tonic for health. The ingredients needed in the preparation of ready-to-drink edible bird nest with Tongkat Ali were Goji berry, red dates, dried Longan fruit, candied Jujube, Licorice root and rock sugar. Water extraction method has been used to extract quassinoid compound in Tongkat Ali. A market survey have been done among TARUC community to study the overall acceptance of RTD-EBN with Tongkat Ali using cross-sectional study and also to investigate the familiarity toward Tongkat Ali among TARUC community. There are 300 respondents involved in this survey. From the result of survey, it showed that there was only 20.33% (61) respondents have tried Tongkat Ali product such as coffee, herbal soup and canned drinks. There were 72.33% (217) respondents have consumed edible bird nest drink before. Most of the respondents only know Tongkat Ali can increase male fertility and boost energy. When purchasing this product, there were 108 respondents (36.0%) focusing on the nutritional values followed by the price, which were 94 respondents (31.33%). The overall acceptance to RTD-EBN with Tongkat Ali can be divided into three categories that are dislike (slightly, moderately, extremely), neither like nor dislike and like (slightly, moderately, extremely). There are 135 respondents (45%) neither like nor dislike and 105 respondents (34.9%) showed they like the product. For the acceptance to the bitterness, there are only 65 respondents (21.7%) cannot accept it.
