Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare coping strategies and stress among Malaysian female basketball player. The sample of this study comprised 111 Malaysian female basketball player. For the purpose of gathering data in this study, two instruments were administered. The instruments selected for this study were “ Sport Anxiety Scale-2” by Smith et al., 1990 and “Athletic Coping Skills Incentory-28” (ACSI-28) by Smith, Schultz, Smoll & Ptacek 1995, which were both adopted. The data was analyzed and interpreted with SPSS version 21. In this study, descriptive statistic tool were used to describe the demographic information such as gender, age, level of representation, years of experience, level of education. In inferential statistic, one-way ANOVA revealed the level of representation showed significant difference in stress and coping strategies. Therefore, there was significant difference in stress among level of representation in level of stress, concentration disruption sub-scale, worry sub-scale and somatic anxiety sub-scale (P < 0.050). Besides that, there was significant difference difference in coping strategies among level of representation in freedom of worry sub-scale (P < 0.050). As a conclusion, the study observed significant between stress and coping strategies in level of representation. However, there were significant differences among national level and district/school level in stress and coping strategy.
