Abstract

Corporate sustainability has become the business imperative for all organisation. Specifically, construction industries which are one of the major contributors towards the gross domestic product (GDP) of Malaysia thirst for corporate sustainability to provide sustainable support for the nation. The employees are the backbones of an organisation, organisation has to protect their well-beings to ensure sustainable input. In light of this, the lack of safety awareness by organisations in Malaysia has shed light on the importance of occupational safety and health management where a safety workplace is likely to enhance employee’s commitment which further lead to corporate sustainability. In addition, the lack of transparency by organisations also revealed the importance of transparency in achieving sustainability where transparent company would promote employee’s commitment. With that, a quantitative and cross-sectional research study is conducted through the collection of primary data via online questionnaire from 134 employees working in construction companies listed in Malaysia to answer the research questions and objectives. The research findings evinced that an organisation with well in place occupational safety and health management and being transparent could increase the employees’ commitment and further promote the organisation’s sustainability. This research provides a detail picture of which dimension of occupational safety and health management will be the most effective in predicting employees’ commitment. Practically, it creates knowledge and awareness for the employers and employees in construction industry on the importance of occupational safety and health management and transparency that boost the employee’s commitment and foster corporate sustainability.
