Abstract

In the new generation where everything is developed and changing rapidly, people rely on media to acquire the latest news and information. Before the internet and social media appeared in people’s daily life, traditional media such as newspaper or radio are one of the sources for people in order to know what is happening all around the world. Moreover, when internet and social media started become the most essential thing for people, it become a tool that can replace newspaper or other traditional media, as it enables people to look for information anytime anywhere, as long as they have a device with internet connection. However, many media organization, no matter online or offline are using different strategies in order to attract more audiences or views. One of the strategies is sharing Clickbait headline, also known as sensational headline in order to grad attention of audiences. Hence, the aim of this research will study about the Clickbait headline and the effects on understanding the real news among TAR UC student. Subsequent to this, the impact of Clickbait headline toward the reliability of news media was investigated. The method used in this research is survey questionnaire which involved 100 respondents. The theory, Information Manipulation theory was applied in this research. This study shows that majority of the TAR UC student have the experience of encounter with Clickbait headline while reading news. At the same time, the analysis shows that most of the respondents are not satisfy with the sharing of Clickbait headline by media organization.
