Abstract

This research aims to explore Asians cultures and elements in the film industry, especially Hollywood. Hollywood has always been a dream stage for the actors. There are many actors who will fight for their places in Hollywood. However, Asian actors still rarely have the opportunity to appear on the screen. This is because in the Western world, they often ignore the influence of Asians and their social status in the industry. But today, the signs of globalization are becoming more and more obvious, there are more and more cultures brought to the world. Globalization has brought different cultures to meet and learn from each other. However, the problem is that, is Crazy Rich Asians portrayed reality of Asian cultures or remains confined to Western cultures. I believes that this can be find through understand the portrayal of the characters and the scenes in Crazy Rich Asians. Therefore, in this research it has selected the movie, Crazy Rich Asians as the research target to examine the portrayal of Asian Cultures in the movie and also the theory- globalisation as the support to this study. The objective of this research is to examine the portrayal of Asians cultures in the perspective of globalisation. It seems to be a great example to explain the sign of globalisation in the Hollywood industry. Crazy Rich Asians is a comedy romantic film that is played by a majority Asian cast. From here, audience especially Western audiences can understand a new culture and lifestyle that rarely shows up in their life. Moreover, it also showed this film has told people that the Asian actors deserve a role in Hollywood and they have their commercial values too. It is believed that this movie has brought a new way of life and cultures to the audience and theory has changed people’s perception towards Asians and the industry. This study explained the portrayed cultures such as languages, food, costumes, music and tradition in the movie and to explain these cultures emergence in the perspective of globalisation. In conclusion, it showed that Crazy Rich Asians has brought a different cultures on the silver screen and it has changed industry’s perspectives towards the Asians.
