Abstract
The impact of the construction industry on the environment has made people more and more aware that it is necessary to adopt more sustainable and responsible attitude to the current practices. Increasing attention has prompted the Malaysian government and professional institutions to more actively alleviate this problem without restricting development needs. This research also recommends some green building materials to be used in the construction industry in Malaysia. Through intensive literature study, it has brought better understanding on the types of green building materials adopted. In addition, this research includes the comparisons between the green building materials and common materials as well as the challenges of using green building materials in buildings. All in all, it is necessary to raise awareness of sustainable development and educate the organization and the public in order to provide ways for further action to continuously improve performance.
