Abstract

In this era of advanced technology, the construction industry is repeatedly criticised of being inefficient and slow in productivity. Currently, there are several studies addressing the project planning software for construction purposes in Malaysia. Reviewing of the past researchers, there are many types of project planning software used by construction companies in Malaysia. Therefore, the main aim for this research is to identify the top 3 planning software used in Malaysia construction industry. Besides, this study also aims to identify the limitation of these software which are MS Project, Primavera P6 and BIM. Moreover, the last aim of this research is to identify the benefits of using software for scheduling. Based on the literature review stated, a questionnaire survey is constructed and quantitative research is adopted for this paper due to less time consuming and little cost. The questionnaire is prepared and distributed to Grade 7 contractors in Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. The data collected is then analysed using SPSS Statistic in order to achieve the objectives. Descriptive analysis is used to analyse the result from the questionnaire survey. The results obtained provide a big picture on the current practices of project planning software used in Malaysia and also the limitations and benefits that affect the Grade contractors in applying the planning software in construction industry. Thus, this research acts as a useful reference not only to construction players but also technology developers.
