Abstract

Construction Industry in Malaysia is growing in a more rapid and development trend in Malaysia especially in recent years where many opportunities and mega projects, it is neither building nor infrastructure development has been rising in our midst. Likewise, PNB 118, Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) and Pan Borneo Project, these on-going projects serve as a significant image for our country. To initiate and ensure these projects carried out and completed in a more successful way in terms of time, cost and quality, manpower is needed to accommodate with these mega projects. Unfortunately, the issue of shortage of manpower still pertaining in the construction industry and it is even worst in nowadays. Thus, this study is carried out to identify the ways that can be taken by the Contractor to resolve the issue of shortage of manpower. Moreover, it also identifies the benefits between hiring local labour and implementing IBS to the construction industry. In addition, it also determines the barriers in hiring local labour and implementing IBS to the construction industry, And lastly, which is the main aim of this study, is to access the preference of Contractor’s in between hiring local labour and implements IBS to resolve the shortage of manpower. Since Selangor area in Malaysia has the largest and numerous numbers of construction development projects gathered and with a high population therefore our research was target on this area. The respondents for this research are targeted on G6 and G7 Contractor who worked in Selangor in Malaysia and the questionnaire survey form shall be delivered to them by hand or email. After the data being collected, it will be analysed using descriptive analysis, Cronbach analysis and others analysis method to obtain the findings and a conclusion and recommendation shall be made based on the findings. Thus, the findings of this research will act as a useful reference for construction parties especially Contractor.
