Abstract

The highly inflow of foreign workers in construction industry has led many problems to our country and the construction sector. Therefore, this research aims to establish a mechanism to reduce the dependency on foreign workers in construction industry and three objectives also been established to achieve the aim of this dissertation. The three objectives in this dissertation are to identify the implications of highly inflow of foreign workers in construction industry, to investigate the factors that hindering the participation of local labour in construction industry, and to propose strategies to reduce the foreign workers in construction industry. Literature review has explained and discussed all the information that collected from the secondary data through journals, articles, and internet information in order to support the objectives of this dissertation. Research methodology that adopted to collect the data also explained in this dissertation. Quantitative method will be used to collect the primary data for this research. 150 sets of questionnaire survey form will distribute to the contractor as they can provide a more creditable and reliable answer for the research objectives. There are total 56 sets of questionnaire survey that collected from the respondents. After the screening of the data, 50 sets of data have been chosen to analyse using SPSS software. The findings of this dissertation show that contagious diseases are one of the most influential implications of highly inflow of foreign worker. The finding for second objective indicates the 3D factors has agreed by most of the respondents as the factors that hindering the participation of local labour. Lastly, the strategy that agreed by most of the respondents is increase the salary of construction worker. All the findings in this dissertation will help to achieve the aim which is to establish a mechanism to reduce the dependency on foreign workers in construction industry.
