Abstract

Tendering is a process that the employer shall select the most suitable contractor from a list of contractors who are invited through public or directly by the employer to carry out the construction works. However, this process can be cheaper and faster by using electronic tendering (E-tendering). E-tendering is a process to execute whole of the tendering cycle online, as well as submission of tender document. The management of tendering process is carrying out by the used of internet and other electronic media. The benefits of adopting E-tendering were time saving, cost saving, reduction of physical storage, environmental-friendly, security of information, improvement of communication, improvement of accuracy and better transparency during tendering process. Therefore, this research has studied the tendering process and types of tendering method in Malaysian construction industry and identified the benefits of E-tendering in the point of view of architect’s, quantity surveyor’s, engineer’s and contractor’s perception using data derived from questionnaire survey by Google Form. This questionnaire involving 66 respondents with architects, professional quantity surveyors, engineers and contractors conducted in 2021 in Malaysia construction industry. The questionnaire was built up by dichotomous questions and Likert scaling questions. The result from the respondents were analysed by descriptive statistic method. Frequency distribution such as tabulation, pie chart and central tendency such as mean will be used in this study. E-tendering brings more benefits to the industry as compared to traditional method of tendering, therefore, the construction parties such as developers, quantity surveyors, consultants and contractors shall work together to promote the E-tendering.
