Abstract

If absence of the successful management and good knowledge, the concept of the construction project development may be affected. The consequences of environmental factors may affect the performances of such project. This study aims identify external interferences affecting building construction project performance in Penang and Johor, Malaysia. The instruments used for the data collection were open-ended and close-ended questionnaires and the target organizations consisted developer, consultant and contractor. The tools employed in this research were Cronbach’s Alpha Reliability Statistics, Mean Score, Pearson correlation coefficient and Kruskal-Wallis Test. Twenty-two variables were identified as external interferences having an impact on building construction project performance. The result of the Pearson correlation coefficient analysis of external interferences and solutions to solve the problems had 9 correlations which were strong correlations. The research recommended that stakeholders should aware of the external interferences and used effective solutions to solve the problem for proper management in order to prevent or reduce the cost and time overruns as well as the quality of the project.
