Abstract

Construction industry involves various parties and professionals in various stages such as the owners, architects, engineers, quantity surveyor, consultants, contractors and supplier. A successful project can be defined as a project completed within budget, on time and achieve satisfactory quality. However, delays in construction industry become frequent phenomenon across the world. In Malaysia, there were only 20.5% of public construction projects and 33.35% of private projects completed on time. Studies indicate that one of the reason of delay in construction project is due to improper planning by contractor. Therefore, to resolve this issue, this research will be carried out to study the methods of construction planning and scheduling to prepare work programme, to define factors affecting the project planning and scheduling to prepare work programme and to propose the suitable framework for planning and scheduling work programme. The research methodologies will be applied for this research are literature review and follow by questionnaire survey, the questionnaire survey forms will be distributed to local project manager, construction manager, planner and schedule who are working in Grade G7 contractor company. The data collected will be analyzed by using frequency distribution and relative important index (RII). The research findings will identify which planning method frequently used by planner and scheduler and which software are frequently adopted by them, and what is factor affecting their selection on planning and scheduling methods.
