Abstract

Rural-urban migration is one of the concern topics for all the residents in rural areas and urban areas. The main objective of this dissertation is to identify the perception of the rural residents toward the factors of rural-urban migration and the ways to attract and retain people to stay in rural area. It is important to understand their opinions regarding the migration decision. First, literature review discusses the theoretical parts on the objectives to be studied. With the knowledge base formed in the literature review, research methodology is carried out in the following chapter. In the research methodology, the targeted populations and data collection method is established. With the survey tools of questionnaire forms, data is collected from the rural residents residing in rural Jitra, Kedah. The data collected is analysed with the aids of SPSS software, with several analysis tests. Lastly, conclusion and recommendations are made in the last chapter which achieve the three objectives in this study. This finding came out with recommendations, which will be useful for future research.
