Abstract

Schiff base is a compound which are characterized by the C=N, azomethine functional group. To obtain a azomethine functional group of Schiff base, condensation reaction between a primary amine and carbonyl compound was done. Thiosemicarbazone is one of the variety of the Schiff base and it exhibit a strong and extensive biological activities. In this project, the thiosemicarbazone (MT4MX2B) was derived from 4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazide (4M3T) and 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-butanone (4MX2B) was synthesized by a condensation method with ethanol as solvent. The synthesized compound of MT4MX2B was characterized by using various methods which includes spectroscopy analysis, FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and DI-MS analysis. Besides, DSC and XRD analysis was also been done to evaluate the properties of MT4MX2B. The structure of MT4MX2B synthesized through analysis interpretation found to be similar as the one proposed. Other than that, in order to evaluate the biological activities of MT4MX2B, antioxidant study through DPPH assay was used to indicate the IC50 of MT4MX2B. The result shows that MT4MX2B possesses antioxidant properties as it has IC50 of 400.2 ppm.
