Abstract

This project and dissertation carried out is to study on the minimization construction waste in construction industry which located in Klang Valley. Construction waste is no longer a new issue in the construction industry. This is due to rapid growth of the construction development and has become a serious issue. So, the construction waste in construction industry has become the subject of many research papers or projects all around the world. It is commonly acknowledged by people that quite high level of waste has been generated in a construction projects. Therefore, this research will focus on investigate type of construction material, factor that cause construction waste to be generated and the suitable method to minimize construction waste in construction industry. It is examining the reaction and attitude of those contractors in this issue. The construction materials that usually become a waste and should be recycling are bricks or blocks, concrete, mortar and others. The factors that normally cause waste to be produced are design changes, error in calculation and others. Besides that, the method that suitable in minimize construction waste are reduce, recycling, reuse, prevention which under sustainable waste management. Sustainable waste management hierarchy do help to minimize construction waste. In short, the purpose of doing this research is to study on how the contractors minimize the construction waste that has been generated in the recent year. This allowed the researcher to explore more on the level of commitment and awareness on sustainable waste management and recommend a strategy to overcome it.
