Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of 6 weeks zig-zag sprints and ladder drills training with loop band on speed, agility and power among professional futsal players. A total of 18 professional male futsal players (Weight = 66.39±7.21 kg, Height = 1.75±0.05m, Age = 27.72±6.16 years, Years of Participation = 9.39±3.50 years) from Selangor MAC Futsal Team was the subject of the study and was divided into four groups. Experimental Group 1 (EG1) (n=4) receives a zig-zag sprint training with loop band around lower extremities. Experimental Group 2 (EG2) (n=5) receives ladder drills training with loop band around lower extremities. The third group, Control Group 1(CG1) (n=5) receives only zig-zag sprint training and the fourth group, Control Group 2 (CG2) (n=4) receives only ladder drills training. All four groups went through their respective training sessions twice a week for a duration of 6 weeks, Pre-test and post-test were conducted to determine the physical fitness components of speed, agility and power of the subject. The component of speed was measured by Flying 30m Sprint Test; agility was determined by Illinois Agility Test; and power was measured with Standing Long Jump Test. Data was statistically analysed involving Paired Sample-T test and one-way ANOVA test to compare the differences among the groups, with significant level set at p ≤ 0.05. The results indicated that all four groups showed improvement in the three components of fitness after a 6-week training programme: (1) EG1 (zig-zag drills with hoop) for speed = -0.38 sec. , agility = -0.22 sec., and power = +0.08m.; (2) EG2 (ladder drills with hoop) for speed = -0.21 sec., agility = -0.10 sec., and power = +0.02m.; (3) CG1 (zig-zag drills) for speed = -0.21 sec., agility = -0.20 sec., and power = +0.01m.; (4) CG2 (ladder drills) for speed = -0.02 sec., agility = -0.12 sec., and power = +0.03m. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that there are positive effects of zig-zag sprints and ladder drills training towards enhancing speed, agility, and limb muscle power of the athletes. EG1 showed significant improvement in speed (p= .001) and power (p= .014), whereas EG2 indicated significant improvement only in speed (p= .035). The present finding shows that Zig zag Sprints are more effective than ladder drills in increasing speed, agility and power. Adding a loop band on lower extremities is more effective during zig zag sprints compared to ladder drills.
