Abstract

The topic for this research is ‘Self-affirmation in Makeovers reality programme: A study of makeovers reality series Queer eye’. This research has studied how Self-affirmation content is able to help improve the genre of Makeover in the media content, especially in the Makeover reality show. Besides, this research has also studied how the exposure of the viewers towards the makeover reality series affected the audiences’ self perception in the aspects of self-esteem and body dissatisfaction. The new released makeover reality show in 2018, which is the Queer Eye series has been chosen as the subjects of this sudy in order to achieved the research objectives listed. The method of survey questionnaires involves this research, which is able to help the researcher to collect useful information to answer the research questions. The results of the survey questionnaire has successfully discovered the effectiveness and perception of the audiences toward the self-affirmation content in Queer Eye,and has also helps to identified the relationship between the exposure level of the viewers toward Queer Eye series and the audiences’ self perception.
