Abstract

The study aimed to explore the visual exploration of visual storytelling and character design of animation address the mental health issues such as glorifying suicide and self-harm and the barriers that are encountered by youth. The aim of this research is to study and collect input data, vision and create the character design which includes systematize and creates an appealing and straightforward visual that fulfil the story requirements to form a connection for people who have suicide attempt that need support from the community. The objective of this research is to discover and complement the story to develop a strong relationship of interest with the audiences. The researcher has conducted two case studies to expand his knowledge on this topic. The researcher has the opportunity to interview Mr Nascent Choy Poh Hon, an animator and motion designer based in Kuala Lumpur and Ms Cheong Sue Jen, an executive director of Malaysia Mental Health Association (MMHA) known as a qualified mental health first aid instructor and promotes mental health at the workplace. The researcher has collected some reference journals and their articles for analytical purposes. According to the design statement of the researcher, the researcher has analysed and has come up with three stages of animation film.
