Abstract

The study attempts to investigate the visual exploration and the modern look of Chinese wedding symbols in typographic illustration that can be taken as an alternative method which encourages couples from the younger generation by adopting and retaining the contemporary wedding practices. Notwithstanding, the modern look of Chinese wedding symbols in typographic illustration actually comprises traditional Chinese wedding but it was helped to transform into an interesting, modern symbolic version, which will allow more young engaged couples to accept and understand the traditional double happiness symbols in a modern way. Used for wedding packaging, such as red envelopes, invitations, wedding candy packaging, wedding cake packaging is because it is a material object that can effectively convey social significance related to traditional Chinese wedding culture also that is recommended through interviewees. Through visuals, the researcher acts as a designer to do an experiment on exploring the modern look of Chinese wedding symbols in typographic illustration. The scope of this study is to produce a modern look of traditional Chinese wedding symbols in typographic illustration which can be accepted by the younger generation nowadays. The researcher has the privilege to interview the focus group which is between 25 to 35 years old. The researcher has also selected some references and their contents for analytical purposes for reference. The researcher has analysed and has come up with three designs of the modern look of the traditional Chinese wedding symbols in typographic illustration, according to the researcher’s design statement.
