Abstract

The main purpose of this project- Designing and implementing a Bookstore POS System with Inventory management system is to assist users in running a more profitable, efficient business. Subsequently, this system also benefits customers alike. Through inventory management, not only are we able to prevent understocking products for businesses, customers would also feel the pleasure of being able to purchase anything as items will always be in stock through inventory management. Through inventory management, traditional businesses are also able to solve problems that have existed for centuries, for instance product theft, receiving defective goods, etc. This is why we should address to this issue and develop a POS system with inventory management to help businesses tackle inventory issues. The scope of the project I would say is small to medium sized as I am only teamed with one other person and we are both lacking in budget, time and knowledge to create a huge system. I would be in-charge of the Inventory management module, Reports module and Purchase Order Module. The functional areas covered within an organization for my modules are warehouse department, purchasing department and sales department. The methodology we would be using for our system is prototyping methodology, we chose this methodology as we plan to constantly improve our system based on our prototype and eventually perfect it. Some of the tools we used to invoke this methodology are IBM rational software architecture which assists us in designing various diagrams for our system. Furthermore, through user acceptance testing we have found out that our system in user friendly and has the necessary functions of a POS System with inventory management. I would say our system is not entire perfect in the sense that the system does not contain enough complex functions for it to be compared with systems in the market today. But, looking at the time and budget we had, I feel that we developed all the necessary functions for it to be used in a legit bookstore.
