Abstract

In 2006, Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) had first introduced in Malaysia which aims to benchmark the Malaysia construction quality level by assessing, evaluating and giving points to the completed building. From time to time, the awareness and the adoption remained low. Thus, this research is aims to evaluate the awareness and perception toward QLASSIC among the property developers. A mixed method had adopted in the primary data collection which are questionnaire survey through online and face-to-face delivery as well as semi-structure interview. The result revealed the overall level of awareness is relatively low and the overall perception is high. Further comparisons were made to evaluate the level of awareness and perception among the award-wining company, company age, business scope and type of company. Independent samples t-test revealed that award-wining company had higher level or awareness and perception toward QLASSIC. Through ANOVA, services and infrastructure show significant different toward the level of awareness instead of perception. ANOVA also revealed that there is a significant difference in the partnership company as compared with private limited company and public listed company in term of their level of perception on QLASSIC. At the end of this research, it found out that low awareness but relatively high level of perception towards QLASSIC among the respondents. As perception is a belief of a person which subject to vary and awareness is showing an understanding of a person toward QLASSIC. The limitations of this research were low response rate, not cover larger areas in Malaysia and time constraints. Thus, future study may consider increase of sample sizes and integrated more data collection method.
