Abstract

Environmental issue has become the global issue and go green is the new trend especially in construction industry. Among all types of the building materials, concrete is one of the most widely used material on Earth. Therefore, green concrete is being introduced as it will have a huge impact on slowing down the environmental issues. However, the implementation of green concrete in Malaysia is still uncommon. As awareness is one of the key factor to jumpstart the implementation, this study aims to investigate the awareness of the green concrete among the property developers and to compare the awareness of the green concrete among the property developers. To achieve the abovementioned research objectives, quantitative method was used to collect the primary data. 400 sets of questionnaire survey was distributed to the property developers in Klang Valley and 80 responses were collected. The data was then analysed with descriptive analysis and test of differences (e.g. independent sample t-test and ANOVA) using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS). The finding showed that the average level of awareness towards green concrete among the property developers are 2.99, which is very close to somewhat aware of green concrete. The results from the tests of differences showed that there is no significant difference between the backgrounds of the property developers on the awareness of green concrete. The finding has theoretical contribution which is to fill in the research gap and practical contribution which is to provide a direction for the policy makers to adjust their strategies to help the construction industry in Malaysia.
