Abstract

The importance of employees in an organisation has been brought to light by many researchers in contributing to the organisation's long-term success. Hence, the demand for internal CSR practices has gradually increased to ensure employees have a safe and positive working environment to increase work productivity and effectiveness in an organisation. This study examines the impact of Internal Corporate Social Responsibility, Job Satisfaction towards the employee’s affective organisational commitment. Specifically, it examines the impacts of four internal CSR practices namely, training and education; justice and fairness in workplace; health and safety and work-life balance on the dimension of employee’s affective organisational commitment. Quantitative with cross-sectional study was conducted in current research by carrying out the survey for 282 working adults in any organisation within Malaysia. Subsequently, the data obtained are analysed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM a.k.a. SmartPLS). The testing of several hypothetical relationships between internal CSR and affective organisational commitment revealed that all the relationships were significant. Moreover, it shows that internal CSR studies are limited within the Malaysian context. Both Job Satisfaction and Organisational Trust were tested as a mediating effect between Internal Corporate Social Responsibility and Affective Organisational Commitment. This study has made significant contributions to the body of knowledge at academic and practical levels by extending the knowledge regarding the impact of internal CSR on employee attitude and behaviour. This study managed to address the relationship between internal CSR activities and organisational commitment in emerging countries. Also, limitations and recommendations for future research are further discussed.
