Abstract

The voice behaviour in Malaysia is extremely depressing, saddening and disappointing. The conceivable reason being is that this country is vulnerable to various destructive national cultures such as high-context culture, low corruption perception and high power distance, which directly or indirectly limits the voices of the people. In organisations, poor corporate governance, corruptions, injustice and dishonesty happen when the voice behaviour is deficient. The overlook of the significance of ethics on employee voice behaviour is dragging the whole organisation behind including the Board of Directors. With that, a quantitative research study is conducted through the collection of primary data via online survey questionnaires from 125 employees working in Malaysian companies to satisfy the research questions and objectives. The findings exhibited that ethical leadership and ethical culture would promote employee voice behaviour in an organisation, and further enhance the effectiveness of the Board. It provides insight on how to improve the employee voice behaviour in Malaysia despite all the disastrous national cultures which are intoxicating the country. Practically, it delivers the awareness for Malaysian companies to start fostering ethics and voice behaviour internally.
