Abstract

In the early years of Malaysian independence, there was a lack of opportunity to pursue higher education. Today, Malaysia has more than 590 HEIs provided by both public and private sector. Besides providing education at higher education standard, HEIs function to provide facilities for study and research, as well as the wellbeing of the staff, students, and other persons at the institution. As the higher education industry is increasingly competitive, factors that enable educational institutions to attract and retain students should be seriously studied. Student satisfaction evaluation is also necessary, so that inadequacy of the HEI can be identified and improved to get ahead of the competition. This research is a case study in TAR UC KL. In this research, the factors influencing students' choice of higher education institution was investigated. Besides, the essential facilities for teaching and learning to be provided in a higher education institution were also identified. Additionally, the students' satisfaction with the facilities management in TAR UC KL was evaluated. From the findings, it was concluded that all of the factors influencing students’ choice of HEI identified in the literature review are influencing students’ choice of HEI. Besides, it was found that library, lecture hall and classroom, and cyber centre are essential facilities for teaching and learning to be provided in a HEI from students’ perception. Moreover, the result showed that, on average, TAR UC KL students are satisfied with the library, lecture hall and classroom, and cyber centre facilities provided.
