Abstract

This study aims to examine the level of public acceptance on solar technology in Malaysia context. Also, this study seeks to investigate the challenges behind accepting solar technology as well as the possible solutions to enhance the usage of solar technology. This study adopts a quantitative research method, which is survey research. An online questionnaire regarding one’s level of acceptance and opinion on solar technology are given to the participants as a part of the study. The participants of this study are adults aged between 18 and 64 years old who reside in Malaysia. Besides, convenience and snowball sampling method are used to recruit participants in this study. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics through IBM SPSS program. The study shows that Malaysians are in fact aware of the existence of solar technology and most of the respondents have some general knowledge about solar technology. The respondents agree that solar technology is good and can bring many benefits to the public such as energy savings, long term cost savings and reducing environmental impacts. However, the respondents also agree that there are some challenges to the implementation of solar technology in Malaysia but there are solutions to solve the problem such as government help by giving tax relief and subsidies for the implementation of solar technology. One of the recommendations for future study is to study how likely are Malaysians to implement solar technology during the Covid-19 pandemic.
