Abstract

3D concrete printing in construction applications is an innovative and challenging area of research which combines the knowledge of traditional construction with digital fabrication. The elimination of formwork plus several other major benefits may trigger the industry to focus on this area in the near future. There has been increased attention on academic research and industrial applications in this area. However, the application of 3D concrete printing in Malaysian construction industry is very poor even though it provides significant benefits in construction works. Therefore, this research aimed to raise the awareness of 3D concrete printing and promote its adoption in Malaysian construction industry. This research has conducted to investigate the concept of 3D concrete printing technology, to determine the benefits of adopting 3D concrete printing technology in construction works and also to identify the ways to implement 3D concrete printing technology in Malaysian construction industry. In this study, questionnaire surveys are chosen to collect the data from the contractor which is located in Klang. The data is analysed using descriptive and multiple response analysis methods with the aid of SPSS software and Microsoft Excel. From the results, it has been shown that most of the respondents are aware of 3D concrete printing but majority of them have not seen any actual 3DCP structure. It also illustrated that the contractors mostly agree on the benefits and the ways to implement 3DCP which are mentioned in this research. Overall, this study offers readers with useful information about 3D concrete printing, thereby improving the awareness.
