Abstract

The idea of implementing BIM in Malaysia was first brought up in 2007 as an initiative to enhance the efficiency in the management and utilisation of project design information amongst project participants broadly speaking. Although many studies have been conducted on the application of BIM in the construction industry, but study from the perspective of productivity and conflicts, and changes are is seemingly lacking. Therefore, the objective of this research is to investigate how the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) affects the Malaysian Architectural and Quantity Surveying practices, specifically in regards to the productivity of the firms, and the conflicts and changes that arise during the pre-construction stage of a building. Quantitative research approach coupled with cross-sectional study design are adopted in this research. Data were collected via questionnaires that were distributed to professionals from Architectural and Quantity Surveying firms in Malaysia. The SPSS software was deployed for data analysis. Hence, the research findings contribute and adds on to a better awareness of BIM in the Malaysian construction industry while giving insight to BIM software engineers on areas of BIM software that requires improvement or optimization based on the data collected.
