Abstract

Construction waste management has become a key area of concern and a pressing issue within the construction and engineering sector. This research aims to identify the obstacles preventing the implementation of a sustainable waste management and the possible initiatives for the improvement of construction waste management practice in Malaysia. The objective of this study is achieved through the collection of data through distribution of questionnaires and the data is analysed through the means of descriptive analysis with the assistance of the SPSS software. This study shows that the most prominent obstacle preventing the implementation of a sustainable waste management in Malaysia is human behaviour while the most enticing incentive sought after by the industry players that can increase their participation in waste control management is a higher Green Building Index (GBI) to be granted to the property upon completion.
