Abstract

Malaysia construction industry was contributed high significant economic development compared with other sectors. The construction industry required a high quantity of workforce to complete the construction project. However, foreign labour was become the fundamental workforce to carry out the construction work due to the construction work is 3D job (Dirty, Dangerous, and Difficult). Therefore, Malaysia construction industry was facing a serious problem in labour shortage. This is because Covid-19 pandemic has reduced the number of foreign labour in Malaysia. It will bring negative effects such as delay the progress of project and pay for the compensation. This intention of this research is to analyse the current situation and impact of foreign labour shortage due to Covid-19 pandemic and provide suggestions about the suitable strategies to overcome the problem of foreign labour shortage in the construction industry. This research focuses only on the opinions of registered contractors in Klang Valley area. In addition, the opinion and experience will be obtained from all the construction players from different nature of company through the completed questionnaire survey form. This research will use the data and result to identify the foreign labour shortage problem in the construction industry. In conclusion, different findings in different objectives have been find out in this research.
