Abstract

The changes of construction industry are very rapid from day to day and the requirements from either costumers or clients are slowly increased. One of the unique capabilities offered by Virtual Reality (VR) is walking into a building project in 3D model with interactive features (G. Ozcan-Deniz, 2019). Besides, the use of VR for house tour is also one of the revolutions in construction that can provide products with high quality. Buyers who have interests in purchasing a property can view the photo and video in virtual simulation uploaded by the developer. The simulation can be viewed by using a VR headset and there is a possibility that this technology may take over the construction industry in the near future. Therefore, investment in the VR technology can allow the construction industry be prepared for the future construction (Raj, 2017). The VR technology will bring a huge impact to the construction project by enhancing the efficiency of all phases of a project from the conceptual phase through design phase until the end of construction. The power and ability to view a design of a building in a 3D model with the eyes and immerse into the virtual environment will improve the understanding on the design concept to allow for better constructability of a project (Walid, 2002). The purpose of this research is to investigate the understanding of the construction professionals on the VR technology. Furthermore, to identify the potential benefits and usages of VR that may be useful during planning and design phase of a construction project. Moreover, the challenges of implementing this technology in construction industry will be identify in order to increase the usage of VR. Other than that, the data collected will be in qualitative and quantitative method. The research method adopted will be descriptive statistic which used to identify the collected data by using SPSS software and Microsoft Excel. The frequency table, statistics table and crosstabulation will be used. Based on the result given, majority of the construction professional will consider to implement VR technology in construction projects. Furthermore, the finding is used to come out with suggestions and recommendations in order to increase the usage of VR in construction industry in Malaysia. This study will be useful for construction companies to consider using VR in their future projects.
