Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the covid-19 outbreak is a pandemic. Covid-19 is a global pandemic that changes the global economic. Many countries adopted a complete national lockdown after an unusual spike in covid-19 cases. This lockdown decision resulted in complete shut down in many businesses and sectors. In the construction industry, the covid-19 pandemic caused projects delay in many countries due to restricted movement of people and resulted completely shut down. Most projects and developments are postponed until further notice by the government. The covid-19 caused the suspension of projects, labour impact, job loss, time and cost overrun, and financial implication. Therefore, this research aim is to investigate the effect of covid-19 and the effect of the measures implemented by the government on the construction industry in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The primary purpose is to identify the impact of Covid-19 in the construction industry. The other purposes are to propose measure to be taken in order to work during MCO/CMCO/RMCO and to identify the challenges faced by the contractor, employer and architect. The findings will be benefit all the parties in the construction industry to understand the situation today during the covid-19 pandemic.
